The Artist

Melchor Rodriguez Jaluag and his brothers discovered their artistic skills since childhood through a serious and consistent interest in sketching, drawing, designing, and painting.
Born in Bais, Philippines, and grew up by helping their parents through fishing, farming, raising domesticated animals, and other livelihoods.

Melchor started to join and received awards from different art and design competitions, accepted commission works since high school. Melchor
received a grant from Asian Arts to study Fine Arts at the University of San Carlos and discontinued
his engineering course. During their fine art exhibition, he garnered various awards in painting, advertising art, graphic design, illustration, and monetary prizes from other competitions. Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Advertising Arts and was awarded first place in his Thesis and Exhibits. After working in Asian Arts, he worked as an advertising artist, layout artist, a graphic designer from various companies, did commission works from foreign clients, and later as a freelancer.

After sending his three siblings to college, Melchor got married and years later, they moved to Canada and landed different kinds of jobs including his jewelry design position. Mel continues his work as a graphic designer and art event instructor for various paint parties in the city and outside the Greater Toronto Area. Also, Mel persists in his process in realism rendering as an assistant fine artist in one of Toronto's prominent studios specializing in modern paintings on mural-sized canvases.

Being an enthusiastic and passionate artist, he is motivated to hone his skill by learning more about his professional painting process. He also loves to visit some museums, galleries, beautiful places,
enjoys painting 'En Plein Air, and takes photos as reference subjects for his studio painting. Jaluag admires the works of Da Vinci, Angelo, Sargent, Monet, Rembrandt, Rubens, Streeton, Amorsolo, Luna, and other world-renowned painters.
Melchor exhibited his paintings in different galleries in Toronto, sold them to friends, acquaintances, other contacts, and online. To this day, Melchor Jaluag keeps accepting portraits, pencil sketches, custom paintings, and other commission pieces.
